Feng Shui Tips

Color is a major component of any decorating scheme that you would like to use in your home, but are the colors you've chosen in harmony with the life chi of the home and its occupants?

In the philosophy of Feng Shui, there are five creative elements, each of which is assigned a color.  They are:  wood/green, fire/red, metal/white, earth/yellow, and water/black.  Colors all vibrate at different frequencies, so in order to achieve balance in the home or a room, balance must be achieved by equalizing the frequencies.  For example, the quantity of red, may need to be countered by a combination of white and black in proportion to create a balance.

The Chakra of colors runs much like a rainbow, with red at one end of the scale, and purple at the other end. In this way you can assess the impact of each color on a room, or home as whole.  Coordinating colors does not mean you must have all five elements in every room.  Balance is achieved by selecting colors that work in harmony with the Feng Shui directions that are most propitious for you and your house.

One of the easiest ways to make Feng Shui color work for you, it to use white walls as your setting, considering it to be like the palette of an artist.  You can then choose carpet, furnishings and draperies, with an eye to their color combination, and the flow of energy in that particular room.  While you may be attempting an Oriental décor that is heavy on red and black, that does not guarantee you good Feng Shui.  However, small touches can easily correct this by creating a corner that is lush with potted plants, and perhaps a multi-level table that holds a tabletop fountain and carved ivory figurines. In this way you have successfully added the colors green and yellow and the elements of wood and earth.
