Candle Décor
Most people think of
candles as something on a birthday cake, or occasionally, in tapers
for a romantic dinner. But candles can be an intrinsic part of your
home décor, and the ambience that you want to create.
In the living room, you
can take a side table, and use it to display that magnificent old
candelabra you found at a yard sale. Polished up, or refinished, it
will look great, filled with tapers to complement your décor, or
changed to fit with other seasonal decorations. It can serve as the
perfect backdrop to a low arrangement of silk flowers in Spring, or
a wicker basket of pine cones and colored Christmas ornaments for
the holidays. And on those cold winter evenings, candlelight can
set the mood, even if you don't have a fireplace to chase away the
howl of wind.
The dining room table is also a wonderful place to make use of
candles, for dinner parties, or even for special family occasions.
The punch bowl that only comes out for wedding showers can be set in
the center and surrounded by a ring of silk flowers or seasonal
garland, and filled with water in which you place floating candles.
An alternative to the traditional candelabra on your table, can be
individual glass candle holders spaced down the table, in descending
order of size, with the tallest in the center, ringed by short
pillar candles for extra light and a dramatic touch. Just be sure
not to use scented candles in the dining room, so that it affects
you sense of smell, because that will interfere with how well you
taste the food being served.
