Beach House Décor

Decorating your home is lots of fun, and when you have the chance to decorate a beach house as well, it's usually a new experience, since a beach house is generally a place to relax, and formality sometimes goes out the window.

Beach houses can be themed according to where they are located, such as the lakeshore and ocean front, or they can be decorated according to where you'd like them to be. In other words, if it's hot and steamy when you get to enjoy your beach house, then go all the way and do a South Sea Islands look.  Why not? It's you that's going to be staying there and enjoying it!

One thing about beach house décor, is that it often tends to be minimal for a variety of reasons.  Among those, is that the beach house may be closed up for a good part of the year, and some families don't want to invest a lot of money in furnishings and accessories that could be lost to break-ins or fire.  Another reason is that a family may not want to move a lot of things like patio furniture, etc. back to the house for the winter.  So decorating a beach house means getting the most out of what you do choose to create your theme.

Many east coast beach houses go with a nautical theme.  That can include things like a fishing net on the living room wall, that glows with color when sun strikes the glass floaters scattered through it.  Lighthouses are another favorite accessory, and you can find them in everything from bird feeders, to clocks, nightlights, doorstoppers and lamps that hold tea candles.  Because you're likely going to spend a lot of time on the patio, that means getting some outdoor furniture, like that perennial favorite, the Adirondack chair, which can be had in a selection of bright colors or the traditional green.

On the west coast, or just in your dreams at the lake, a popular décor scheme is the South Sea Islands, which usually involves lots of bright colors, and tropical prints in the curtains, cushions, and furniture coverings.  Bamboo furniture on the deck will add to the atmosphere, as will rattan or wicker furniture indoors.
